Is this a mini session?
Not in the usual sense. A Matinee is a shorter version of my real work, the same candid, lightly-directed approach, just in a tighter window and at a location I've already scouted for the light. It's built for families who want to feel how I work before booking a full session, not a quick everyone-look-here holiday-card shoot.
How is it different from a full session?
Time and range. A full Picture Book or Side Quest gives us longer, more locations, room to move through a whole story, and a much larger gallery. The Matinee is one location, one golden hour, thirty frames: a first chapter. If you love it, the full session is where we tell the bigger story.
Why weekday and golden hour only?
The weekday part is the best part. Golden hour on a Tuesday means the parks and streets are quiet, no weekend crowds waiting their turn or wandering through your background. It's a calmer, more relaxed pace, which is exactly when kids loosen up and real moments happen. Add in the best light of the day and a friendlier price, and the weekday golden hour is the sweet spot.
When does this run?
The Matinee is a fall exclusive, running October through November, for the warm light and the turning season. There are just a handful of weekday slots, and once they are gone, they are gone until next fall. Join the list and you will be the first to know the moment dates open.
Where do we shoot?
You'll choose from a short list of locations I've scouted around Orange County, spots I know hold gorgeous light at golden hour. Keeping the list curated means I know exactly how each one photographs, so we spend our time together on the pictures, not on figuring out where to stand.
Can we bring the dog?
Always yes. Dogs are welcome, just let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it at the location.
What should we wear?
Once you're booked, you'll get a styling guide with everything you need. The short version: coordinate, don't match; lean into texture and warm tones; skip the loud logos.
What if the weather turns?
A little soft overcast can be beautiful. If we're facing an actual storm, we'll move you to another available golden-hour slot at no cost. You won't lose your session to weather.
When do we see everything?
Your gallery of thirty edited images arrives within one week as a private online gallery, ready to download and print.
