Orange County · Golden Hour

Fall Family Sessions '26.

Warm light, long shadows, and the year at its most golden. A fall session is a slow hour with the people you love, in the best light Orange County gives all year. Frames for the wall and the holiday card, with the real in-between moments along the way.

The light only turns this soft once a year. Let's use it.

Why Fall

The best light of the year.

Fall is my favorite season to shoot here. The sun sits lower and softer, the afternoons turn gold an hour earlier, and the whole coast feels calmer once summer lets go. It is the easiest time of year to get warm, relaxed frames of your family, and the right window to sort your holiday cards before the rush. Weekend golden-hour dates are the first to book, so the earlier you reach out, the more of the season we have to work with.

The Sessions

Two ways to tell it.

Every fall session is the same candid, lightly directed approach. The only choice is how much of the day you want to tell.

The Picture Book

Lifestyle

Golden hour on the sand, a canyon trail, or a park turning gold. Beautiful portraits with room to breathe and play, and the in-between moments happen along the way. The classic family session, and the one most fall families choose.

Storytelling

A session built around something your family actually does together. I photograph it from inside the scene rather than across the room, so the gallery comes home feeling like the day itself. A little longer, a little bigger, a lot more story.

Kind Words

45 five-star reviews on Google

Daniel was an amazing photographer. He had a super chill vibe to him the entire time we worked with him, and he had great ideas. Our pictures turned out playful, warm, and captured our personalities so well.

Jessica Dineen

I was blown away by his exceptional photography skills and his natural ability to connect with our kids. He expertly guided our family of six, capturing sweet, candid moments and big smiles from everyone. Initially our kids were a bit shy, but Daniel's gentle approach brought out their natural smiles.

Stephanie C. Mao

This was our family's first time getting professional photos taken, and Daniel made the whole process easy and stress-free. He was incredible with our two energetic little ones and even managed to get our teenager to enthusiastically participate.

Kristina Mitchell

We have now booked two sessions with Daniel and have been SO pleased with the galleries. He takes whatever time necessary to ensure you get the shots you care about most. The photos are beautifully edited and delivered with speed.

Good Questions

A few things folks usually ask.

When should we book for holiday cards?
Sooner than you'd think. Galleries are delivered within two weeks, so to have cards in hand comfortably before the holidays, aim to shoot by mid-November. The warm-light weekends in late October and early November are the first to go, so reaching out early gives you the most dates to choose from.
Where do we shoot in fall?
Canyon trails, quiet beaches, and parks that turn gold this time of year. Once you book, I'll send you my full Orange County location guide: the spots I know best, tagged by vibe and dog friendliness, so we can pick the one that suits your family. I scout the light ahead of every session too, so we spend our time on the pictures instead of figuring out where to stand. And if there's a place that already means something to you, we can shoot there.
Which session should we pick?
Start with the kind of day you want, not the photos. The Picture Book is the classic: beautiful portraits with room to breathe. The Side Quest is built around something you already do together, shot from inside the scene rather than across the room. Neither one is the upgrade, and the right one usually picks itself. Not sure? Tell me about your family in the form below and I'll help you choose.
What do fall sessions cost?
Fall sessions start at $650. That's the Picture Book: about an hour, 75+ edited images, styling and location help, and a gallery that stays live for six months. The Side Quest runs longer, delivers more, and includes the Polaroid Pack. Every session covers up to six people, and each additional guest is $30. The full breakdown, maternity and newborn bundles included, is on the pricing page.
Do you have anything shorter?
Yes, the Weekend Matinee: fifteen minutes on one of six weekend dates this fall, $295. See the dates.
What should we wear?
Every booked session includes a full styling guide, and I'm happy to weigh in personally. The short version: coordinate, don't match; lean into texture and warm, autumnal tones; skip the loud logos. Warm earth colors photograph beautifully against the fall light.
What if it rains?
A little soft overcast can be gorgeous, and some of my favorite frames came from those days. If we're facing an actual storm, we'll reschedule at no cost, and you'll never lose your session or retainer to weather.
How do we book?
Send an inquiry using the form below with the date or month you have in mind. I'll reply within 24 hours, usually much sooner, with availability and next steps. Once we've picked a date, a 50% retainer holds it, with the balance due one week before your session.

Six Weekend Dates · 2026

Or, the Weekend Matinee.

Not every family needs a full session this year. Fifteen minutes and twenty-five photos, on six weekend dates at three spots I keep going back to, October 11 through December 5.
