Good Questions

A few things folks usually ask.

Which session is right for us?
Start with the kind of day you want to have, not the photos. The Picture Book is the classic: beautiful portraits with room to breathe and play, whether that's a milestone, the holiday card, or no occasion at all. The Side Quest is built around something you already do together, and I shoot it from inside the scene rather than from across the room. One is about how your family looks. The other is about what the day felt like from where you were standing in it. Neither one is the upgrade, and the right one usually picks itself.
What makes the Side Quest look different?
Most family photos are made from the outside looking in, everyone lined up facing the camera. On a Side Quest I blend into the scene and shoot as a participant rather than an observer. The perspective stays dynamic: a wide watchful frame one moment, your point of view the next, then the view right over your shoulder. You get the angles you actually live from but never get to see, so the photos feel lived in instead of looked at.
Can a maternity session be a Side Quest?
Yes, and it's at its best when there's already a kid or two in the picture: one last adventure as the family you are now, with the bump along for the ride. Everyone has something to do, and the story has its cast. Bundle it with a newborn session and the $250 savings works exactly the same way. Add the one year on top and all three together is $1,795, a savings of $455.
Do you photograph seniors and solo portraits?
Yes, and there are two ways to do it. The Main Character is one location, up to three outfits, around an hour, with the time spent going deep in one spot rather than covering ground. The Origin Story is the bigger one: 90 minutes to two hours across multiple locations and outfits, built around what you're actually into, so the gallery has real range instead of one vibe repeated, and it comes with the Polaroid Pack. Seniors, grads, personal branding, or just a set of photos that finally look like you. If you're weighing the Origin Story against the Side Quest, they're cousins at the same price: the Side Quest is a family in the middle of something they do together, the Origin Story is one person, and the day moves to wherever their story lives. More on both on the portrait page.
Do you pose us?
I direct more than I pose. You'll get prompts, structure, and honest guidance the whole way, so you're never left wondering what to do. The classic shots absolutely happen. They just grow out of real moments instead of stiff setups.
Can we bring the dog?
Please do. Dogs are welcome at every session, and if your location has rules about four-legged guests, we'll sort that out in planning.
Do you help us pick a location?
Yes, and it's one of my favorite parts. My locations page has 20+ spots I know intimately, tagged by vibe, permit needs, and dog friendliness. If you have a place that matters to your family, a trail you hike every weekend or the neighborhood you grew up in, we can shoot there too. Side Quests widen the map further: the local ice cream shop, the tide pools, a round of mini golf. The best location is almost always the one that feels the most like you.
What should we wear?
Every booked session includes a full styling guide, plus access to my Style & Select portal, where you can plan outfits with real color swatches from your session's location. I'll also weigh in personally if you want a second opinion. The short version: coordinate, don't match; lean into texture and warm tones; avoid loud logos.
What if it rains, or something comes up?
A quick misting can make for gorgeous photos, and some of my favorite frames came from those days. If we're facing an actual storm or unsafe conditions, we'll reschedule at no cost, and you'll never lose your session or retainer to weather. Life happens on your end too: you can reschedule once at no cost, and a second reschedule risks the retainer, which covers the time I've already held on my calendar for you.
What if my kid completely melts down?
First, breathe. Kids do what kids do, and the hard moments in a session are often where the best real photos come from. If we hit a wall, we pause, snack, regroup, and keep going. I never leave until we have the photos, and your prep guide covers all the tricks I've learned for keeping little ones happy along the way.
How far do you travel?
Anywhere in Orange County and Los Angeles County is fully included, no travel fee. San Diego County adds a $100 travel fee. If you're dreaming of somewhere farther afield, a desert weekend, a mountain getaway, a destination shoot, reach out and we'll build something custom.
How long until we see the photos?
Two weeks from your session date, delivered as a private online gallery. You'll get high-resolution files ready to print, share, or set as your phone background five minutes later, and your gallery stays live for six months, so there's no rush to download everything the first night. Sneak peeks sometimes show up on Instagram before then, but the full gallery lands in your inbox on schedule.
Can we order prints or albums?
Yes. Every gallery connects straight to my custom print shop, so professional prints, canvases, and framed pieces are a few clicks away, made from the same files I edited for you. And if you want the whole story in your hands, I design custom photo albums for any session, built to order around your favorite images. Just ask when your gallery arrives and we'll put one together.
How do we book?
Send an inquiry through the contact page with the date or month you have in mind. I'll reply within 24 hours (usually much sooner) with availability and next steps. Once we've picked a date, a 50% retainer holds it, and the remaining balance is due one week before your session.
