Best Orange County Family Photo Locations for Natural, Golden Hour Sessions

Handpicked beaches, parks, and hidden gems for relaxed, natural family photos in Orange County.

Sometimes the shy ones make for the sweetest moments. Strands Beach, Dana Point.

Beach Locations

Open space, golden light, and plenty of room to play. These beach spots make family sessions feel easy and natural.

Crystal Cove
Newport Beach

A coastal stretch with bluff top trails, rolling hills, and access down to the beach, giving you multiple looks in one session. You can start up top for ocean views and golden light, then head down to the sand for relaxed, barefoot moments along the shoreline and tide pools. A $100 permit is required.

Huntington Beach Pier
Huntington Beach

A wide, open stretch of sand with easy access and plenty of space for kids to run and play. The pier adds that classic Southern California backdrop, and you’ll often see surfers in the water, bringing a fun, authentic energy to the scene—especially at sunset when everything starts to glow.

Seal Beach Dunes
Seal Beach

Rolling sand dunes layered with beach grass create soft hills and natural depth, giving this spot a more secluded, tucked-away feel. The sand is soft and open, with plenty of space for families to roam, climb, and settle into quiet, unhurried moments.

Strands Beach
Dana Point

A wide, scenic beach framed by cliffs, with long stairs leading down from the bluff above. Once you’re on the sand, there’s plenty of open space to spread out, plus a mix of shoreline and dramatic backdrops that give you variety while still keeping things relaxed.

Treasure Island
Laguna Beach

A scenic cove with rocky shoreline, tide pools, and a small sea cave that adds a unique, adventurous feel. It’s a beautiful spot with a lot of texture and variety, though it can get crowded in the summer, and a photo permit ($100) is required for sessions here.

Parks & Nature Locations

If you’re drawn to trees, open fields, and that soft golden light filtering through leaves, these spots are for you. Park sessions tend to feel a little more grounded and calm, with plenty of space for kids to explore and moments to unfold naturally.

Playful kids hang with Mom at Yorba Regional park.

Carbon Canyon Regional Park
Brea

Tucked deep inside the park, this hidden grove of towering redwoods feels like a little secret most people wouldn’t expect in Orange County. The trail in adds to the experience, and once you’re there, the tall trees and soft, filtered light create a quiet, almost storybook setting.

Citrus Ranch Park
Tustin

Set on a hilltop with open views, this park features rows of citrus trees, winding trails, and scattered shade trees throughout. The layout gives you a mix of structure and open space, with beautiful light rolling across the hills as the sun drops.

Gum Grove Park
Seal Beach

A quiet, forest-like setting filled with tall eucalyptus trees, winding dirt paths, and a soft, woodsy feel throughout. The filtered light and natural textures make it a great spot for families who want something a little more shaded and serene.

Jeffrey Open Space Trail
Irvine

You can start in the wide open grass, let the kids run a bit, then wander into rows of trees that shift color in the fall. Along the way, there’s a small orange grove, pockets of rocks, tufts of grass and little changes in texture that make it easy to keep the session moving without ever feeling rushed.

Oak Canyon Nature Center
Anaheim

A shaded, tucked-away spot with winding dirt trails, wooden bridges, and clusters of oak trees throughout. It feels a little more like a nature walk than a park, making it great for families who want to explore, slow down, and let moments happen along the way.

Oso Pacific Parkside Path
Laguna Hills

A winding dirt path lined with a rustic wooden fence, giving it a simple, countryside feel right in the middle of Orange County. It’s a more secluded spot with soft light and just enough texture to keep things interesting without feeling busy.

Quail Hill Park
Irvine

Rolling hills that catch the light beautifully, especially as the sun starts to drop. It’s open, airy, and easy to move through, making it perfect for relaxed sessions that lean into that warm, golden glow.

Serrano Creek Park
Lake Forest

Tucked into the park are clusters of tall eucalyptus trees that create a soft, almost enchanted forest feel, with warm-toned bark and soft greens all around. It’s a beautiful spot to wander a bit, letting moments unfold naturally beneath the canopy.

Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park
Coto de Caza

Majestic live oaks scattered across rolling golden hills open up into a breathtaking stretch of space that feels wide and untouched. As the light softens, the whole landscape takes on a warm, nostalgic glow—like something you’ve felt before but can’t quite place.

Weir Canyon Nature Preserve
Anaheim Hills

Rolling hills dotted with wildflowers open up to wide, epic views that stretch out in every direction. It’s the kind of place where you wander a bit, take it all in, and before you know it, the light softens and the moment feels like something out of a long lost photo album.

Yorba Regional Park
Anaheim

A mix of shady paths, a rustic wooden bridge, and a duck-filled lake, with plenty of space to wander between it all. In the fall, the trees turn a rich golden yellow, adding warmth throughout the park and if the ducks decide to join in, it usually makes for a few unexpected, fun moments.

Architecture & Unique Spots

If you’re looking for something a little different, these spots bring in clean lines, texture, and a bit of character. They’re perfect for families who want a more styled, editorial feel while still keeping things relaxed and natural.

San Juan Capistrano

Historic stone walls, archways, and garden courtyards create a warm, timeless setting with beautiful light throughout the grounds. It’s easy to move between different backdrops, giving you a lot of variety while still keeping a calm, intentional feel. A $100 photo permit is required, and sessions must take place during open hours.
